Jann A. Johnson (Cresswell) started writing for pleasure at an early age. She grew up in Sarasota and southern Florida where she enjoyed the Florida ecosystem, developed a love for nature, and an active interest in Pow Wows. Her travels to many Native American cultural events and ceremonies throughout the United States ingrained an appreciation and respect for the many Native American tribes and their traditions.
While living on the Navajo Reservation in Tuba City, Arizona, she saw the beauty of the Diné land, her people, and their traditions. By watching the process of Navajo rug weaving, she recognized how the beauty of a natural weaving takes dedication and a peaceful mind.
Jann resides in Salt Lake City and has three sons, a daughter-in-law, and a mini pin named Spike. Wisdom Weaver, her first book, won the SCBWI Barbara Karlin Grant in 2003.
