Jóhonaa’éí: Bringer of Dawn

I was pleased to stumble upon this book a couple of days ago in my local library.  As a homeschooling parent, I strive to incorporate stories from as many different cultures as possible; however, it's not always easy to find stories which are actually written and illustrated by members of the culture being written about.  Overall, I found this book to be an appropriate introduction to Navajo culture and spirituality, not just for my daughter but for me as well.  Though I can't read, write, or speak the Navajo language, it is refreshing to have this book be bilingual because it signals to the reader, whether of Navajo descent or not, that one's own culture need not be lost or discarded in the process of learning about and interacting with others' cultures.
